Environmental & Health Public Policy

GERI delivered services focused
on integrating U.S. grassroots delegations into international policy
venues, shaping policy advocacy and promoting global networking.
Issues include environment, natural resources, fair labor and trade,
globalization, public and community health.
· GERI
provided technical assistance to U.S. activists at
official preparatory meetings, in Bali, Indonesia and New York City,
and during three key international events: (1) the 2001 World
Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa; (2) the 2002
World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil; and (3) the 2002 World
Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.

GERI assisted in developing a
global networking project, which convened South Asian and North
American social justice and environmental lawyers and advocates in a
dialogue about legal and public health issues, transnational
environmental enforcement and oversight, and collective strategies
that address the impacts of globalization on sustainable
development.

GERI provided technical
assistance, meeting planning and agenda development services to
convene international meetings held in Sariska, India, involving
participants from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, the United
States and Mexico; and a meeting, held in Kathmandu, involved
Nepalese grantee organizations of the Ford Foundation.

GERI is a consultant to the
Forum for Justice on the South Asian Judicial Interaction on
Environmental Justice and Equity, an event in Kathmandu, Nepal in
the summer of 2004, that will convene participant judges across the
region for sessions ranging from statutes, jurisdiction and the
implications of multilateral agreements to environmental
infrastructure, gender, intellectual property rights of indigenous
peoples, and biotechnology.
